Whether you are superstitious or not, having a black cat cross your path can be just a little bit nerve racking. The story of the black cat being a sign of “bad luck” has been with us for thousands of years. In my opinion, I do not believe in that myth, however, I do have to say that the thought always comes to my mind whenever one runs in front of me.
I just recently took an airplane trip up to see my family. The morning I left, a black cat darted out in front of my car (I was driving to the airport). Of course, thoughts of my plane crashing went through my mind. Needless to say, I went on.
Now, did my plane crash to the ground that day? Well, if that were true, you wouldn’t be reading this right now, however, some strange coincidences did happen that day. My plane was delayed and then had problems with one of the doors. Once we boarded there was a sick patient who needed medical attention promptly and we almost had to make an emergency landing (that turned out fine and there were paramedics waiting for him when we did land). When we came in for a landing, it was the worse case of turbulence I have ever experienced. As I sat there, white knuckled with panic and begging to keep the plane under control, I cursed that black cat right up to the point where we made a safe landing.
