I am not a girl, nor am I a woman, but that doesn’t stop me from wondering what all the fuss is about. I often find myself thinking about equality and all that stuff, and I was doing just that when a glum looking female friend pointed something out the other day: “Hey,” she said, unable to look me in the eye. “How come there are no gadgets for girls? It’s annoying me.”
“What are you talking about?” I replied. “What about pink?”
She looked at me tentatively, then punched me in the arm. “Pink is not a gadget, moron,” she said. “It’s a colour.”
I said, “fair enough but that hurt.”
But she had a point. Up until that moment It had never occurred to me that the Gadget market was a male-dominated arena. So when I got home—with my sore arm, because she was more of a girl (or less of a girl?) than most in that respect—I typed in ‘gadgets for girls’ in to good old internet. And guess what it told me?! It gave me the sight Gadget4girls.com–that’s right girls / women / grandmas / ladies–a site specifically focusing on gadgets entirely for the female of the species!
I was dubious at first. How different can a gadget for girls site really be? I thought. Well, I have to tell you, it turns out it can be very different indeed.
One incredibly girly thing I found at once was a thing about Ice Rings. Yep. Rings made of ice. I know, it sounds preposterous and daft, that’s precisely what I thought; but actually it turns out they aren’t made from ice at all, they are just made to look like ice–distinctly girly indeed I think you’ll all agree–.
If you are on the hunt for more ladies that are geared towards the technical industry, check out this Enigin PLC blog. I think you may find that amusing as well!
